Choosing the right backsplash film

Choose a PVC film of 350 microns minimum, resistant to humidity and heat up to 60 °C. The rolls generally measure 60 cm wide for 2 or 5 m long. Prefer a smooth finish or a discreet pattern so the joins go unnoticed.

Cut the film to size keeping 1 cm of margin, stick the top edge then unroll pushing the air out with the squeegee from the centre towards the edges. For the sockets, switch off the power, mark the centre, make a cross incision and fold back the flaps before recutting the excess.

• Applying on a damp or greasy wall: the film peels off within a few weeks
• Pulling on the film during application, which creates unrecoverable creases
• Cutting live around the electrical sockets
• Forgetting to smooth the edges, the areas most sensitive to peeling
