Installing a wireless home alarm
A wireless alarm protects your home without any wiring work, in just a few hours. This guide is for anyone who wants to secure the front door, windows and sensitive rooms. You will learn how to choose the kit, install the control panel and the detectors, then configure the mobile app.
Choosing the right kit and detectors
Count one magnetic door/window sensor per accessible door and window and one infrared motion detector per passage room, all linked to a control panel. Check that the kit works on 868 MHz or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with a siren of 100 dB minimum and a backup battery.
- Inventory the openings to protect: door, windows, sliding doors
- Choose the control panel and check its radio range, about 100 m in open space

Installing the control panel and the detectors
Install the control panel near the front door, at least 1.50 m from the floor, on a stable wall. Fix each door/window sensor on the frame and its magnet on the moving part, respecting a maximum air gap of 2 cm. Point the motion detectors toward the passage areas.
Connecting the app and testing the system
Download the manufacturer's app, create an account and link the control panel to the home's Wi-Fi. Name each room, program the codes and the partial arming, then test each sensor and the siren to validate the complete installation.
Precautions and mistakes to avoid
- Choosing a weak password for the app account
- Placing the control panel within reach of a window accessible from outside
- Pointing a detector toward a sunny window, a source of false alarms
- Arming the system without checking the battery level of the sensors
