Planning the network before buying

Simple rule: count 4 L/h per dripper, and if the total exceeds 200 L/h, install a second line or a suitable pressure reducer. Plan one dripper every 30 to 40 cm on vegetable rows.
Assembling the system step by step
- Install the timer on the faucet, then the filter and the pressure reducer
- Unroll the main tubing along the planned route and cut it to size
- Insert the emitters with the supplied punch, respecting the plant locations
- Push the adjustable drippers onto the emitters and tighten without forcing
- Close the end of each line with a line end cap
- Turn on the water and check for leaks at the fittings, tightening the keys if necessary
Adjusting flow rates and durations
- Adjust each dripper according to the plant: 2 L/h for herbs, 4 to 8 L/h for tomatoes and zucchini
- Water in the morning, 2 to 3 times a week in summer depending on the climate
- Allow 10 to 20 minutes per watering for good infiltration
- Reduce the duration after rain and adapt to evaporation
Maintenance and troubleshooting
- Clean the filter every month and at the start of the season
- Visually check the drippers from time to time: an irregular jet signals a clog
- Rinse the network in spring by opening the line end caps
- Unclog blocked drippers with the supplied needle or with hot water
- Replace damaged drippers with identical models for a consistent flow rate
Drippers or soaker hose: how to choose?
The point dripper delivers a precise amount of water at the base of one plant: ideal for spaced plants such as tomatoes, zucchini or roses. The soaker hose, porous along its entire length, diffuses water continuously along a line: perfect for dense rows of lettuce, garlic or flowers. In a row vegetable garden, people often combine both: soaker hose for seedlings and adjustable drippers for larger plants. Note that the soaker hose should be used over limited lengths (30 m maximum) to keep a consistent pressure.
